Cyclone Asna, a cause of concern for the coastal regions of Gujarat, passed with minimal impact, leaving the state largely unscathed. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that the cyclone weakened as it approached the coastline, sparing the region from significant damage.
Authorities, however, did not take any chances. Over 3,500 people were evacuated from vulnerable coastal areas as a precautionary measure. These residents were temporarily relocated to safer shelters set up by the state government. The evacuation process was carried out smoothly, with no reports of injuries or casualties.
IMD had been closely monitoring the cyclone’s path, issuing timely updates and warnings. Fishermen were advised to return to shore, and ports were temporarily closed to ensure safety. Despite the cyclone’s reduced intensity, strong winds and heavy rains were experienced in some coastal districts, leading to minor flooding and the uprooting of trees in a few areas.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel expressed relief over the minimal impact of Cyclone Asna, praising the coordinated efforts of the disaster management teams, local authorities, and the IMD. “Our priority was the safety of our people, and the timely evacuation and precautionary measures have ensured that no lives were lost,” he said.
While the cyclone has now moved away from Gujarat, weather officials continue to monitor its trajectory. Some regions may still experience residual effects in the form of heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours. The state government has urged residents to remain vigilant and adhere to any further advisories.
