Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Zeeshan Siddique on Friday approached the Bandra West Police Station in Mumbai and lodged a complaint after allegedly receiving two death threats over the phone. The development has raised fresh security concerns for the politician, who is the son of slain NCP leader Baba Siddique.
Siddique arrived at the Bandra West Police Station to formally report the alleged threats and seek police intervention. According to news agency ANI, the NCP leader had earlier informed senior police officials as well as Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis about the threatening calls.
The politician said he had brought the matter to the attention of Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti and the chief minister after receiving the alleged death threat. His complaint is expected to help the police establish the identity of the caller or callers and determine the motive behind the threats.
“I have informed Mumbai Commissioner of Police (CP) Deven Bharti and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis about the call,” Siddique had told ANI.
The latest incident comes against the backdrop of earlier threats allegedly received by Siddique. The NCP leader had previously claimed that he was threatened by individuals linked to the underworld. The fresh calls have therefore intensified concerns surrounding his safety.
Siddique’s family has already been at the centre of a high-profile security case following the killing of his father, Baba Siddique. The veteran politician was shot dead in Mumbai in October 2024, in an incident that triggered a major investigation and renewed scrutiny over threats allegedly linked to organised crime.
While the circumstances and source of the latest threats are yet to be conclusively established, the police are expected to examine call records and other available evidence as part of their investigation. Officials will also assess whether the latest threats are connected to the earlier allegations made by Siddique.
The NCP leader’s decision to approach the police comes as authorities continue to maintain heightened vigilance around prominent political figures who report threats. Any assessment of the seriousness of the calls and the level of security required for Siddique will depend on the findings of the police investigation.
The complaint was lodged at a time when Siddique remains politically active in Maharashtra. The alleged threats have added another layer to the security concerns surrounding the politician and his family.
